“High Comfort” Bikeways

Denver will be reorganizing eight city streets by adding “high comfort” bikeways that will be finished by 2020.

Funded by the Elevate Denver Bond that voters approved in 2017, the eight new “high comfort” bikeways will add up to 17 miles of new bikeways that provide key connections, recreation opportunities, and above all, safe places to roll for riders of all abilities and comfort levels.

The Denver Streets Partnership has been working with community members to create videos that explain the benefits of each planned bikeway.  Check them out below!

What is a high comfort bikeway?

Images of a high comfort bikeway and a high stress bikewayA “high comfort” bikeway is a dedicated path for people on bikes to travel along on a street that provides a buffer of protection between them and passing traffic. There are a variety of methods for these physical barriers between the rider and cars, such as planters, curbs, parked cars, or vertical posts. These enhanced bike facilities improve the safety and comfort of not only people on bikes, but people walking and driving as well.
